Talk About Equality

We want to end with some choices you can make every day to actively challenge racism.

Make talking about equality part of your conscious and ongoing parenting or teaching philosophy.

Use current events to encourage discussion about racial and ethnically charged events happening in the news. An example question might be: What do you think the consequences of this new policy will be? How might it affect different people?

You can also ask questions about inequalities that children may have seen or experienced in their own lives. And together you can work through proactive solutions. An example question might be: Do you think Billy is willing to talk to Johnny about his hurtful comments? How might you talk to Johnny about what he said to Billy?
